About

I (Per Gabrielsson) has always liked working in 3D in CAD and to the level that the CAD system perform what I want. So, for example back in 1997 did we transfer PCB layout between ECAD and MCAD. It is rudimental today but was hi-tech then. I have worked with product development in several CAD systems such as Unigraphics/NX, Creo, Inventor, Revit and am proud tthat it have been on such a level that I am inventor in several patents.

2013 was I working in the aerospace and defense industry and the company got a target to look at MBD and use 3D-models more efficient. With my background to make CAD systems do what I wanted them to do, it became a good match and I believed that it was better that I created possibilities for organization to work more efficient and to set up systems to support it than working as mechanical engineer.

Processes has always changed and improved and look different depending on what company got as target. But typical target are short Time To Market, Concurrent engineering and raise quality by system support. What I also seen are that organizations look at other groups to find new ways of improving, for example LEAN that software use are now hardware design start looking at. For me a company standard are “Best knowned way of working, right now”, this reflect that it is a constant improvment and what was best of working yesterday, might have changed. And we are seeing a major change right now depending on software get more avalible for everyboy out of the box, not only own developed by large driving companies.

Change to use MBD (Annotated 3D-model) instead of 2D-drawing as governing document are fundamental, and will create better data to use downstream, you will also get the possibility to get system support verifying the data are correct or at least set, so no data carrier are left un assigned.

MBDSweden are my way or publish some of my thougths about annotated 3D-models. What is the benefits and why this will be used by everybody within the industry. It will also look at higher levels like MBE (Model Based Enterprise) and PLM.
